De Profundis by Oscar Wilde
A prisoner who blames someone about his misfortune, it didn't have sense to me when I started to read the book, though when the reading went on I realized that the prisoner is in fact Oscar Wilde. I searched on internet and I knew that this book is in reality a letter.
When Oscar was pretty famous had a relationship with Alfred Douglas, Alfred took advantage of Oscar economically and emotionally. Oscar was accused for gross indecency with Alfred, he lost the trial and he was sent to prison, where he started to write this letter.
Intolerant times brought Oscar to misfortune, society took many years to acknowledge Oscar such as a big author.
It was hard to finish it, knowing that each word is not fiction; each word in this letter shows us feelings such as pain, hate, forgiveness and love.
It was a coincidence that I have finished seeing recently the TV series "Orange is the new black" certain topics are related to the book:
In the series the protagonist Piper has a lesbian relationship with Alex
Both of their couples take advantage of them
Both Piper and Oscar have the same sentence of 2 year.
She is blonde and her family has money, Oscar in his moment had money and fame.
Piper loses her grandma, Oscar lost her mom, when they are in prison.
Piper breaks out with her fiancé Oscar's wife left him.
Basic instincts are remarked to us for instance: In some chapter Piper enjoys the food and coffee out of prison, Oscar enjoyed eating white bread.
Search book coincidences are topic for other study and blog.
